BIL Conference » People are talking about BIL
I just came across this great blog post by Ethan Zuckerman, the cofounder of Tripod and a TED attendee, titled BIL and TED, An Excellent Adventure.
If there are amazing people at BIL - both folks who came to TED, and amazing people who simply decided to come into town for BIL - does it become as exciting and important a conference as TED? More exciting because it’s got a different and broader audience? Less interesting because it doesn’t have a $6k pricetag and the chance that you’re standing next to someone famous is much lower than at TED?
It’s exciting to see how many people seem to support the idea of BIL. As Ethan said, “My guess is that TED will turn out to be a fan and supporter of BIL.” While we have no official word yet from TED, we’re contacting them and hope to hear back from them in the coming weeks.
Yesterday was also BarCamp Texas, where Bill and Cody gave a quick talk on BIL. Everyone loved the idea, and quite a few people said that they would be attending. What was most surprising was that most people there had already heard about BIL (but didn’t know Bill and Cody were a part of it - which is a good thing. This is organized by the community, not individuals).
Word is spreading, attendees and speakers are adding themselves to the wiki, and people are getting ready.

Hi,
have you guys ever thought about having somthing like your conference in the UK?
Want to talk about making it happen?
regards
Matt
“the chance that you’re standing next to someone famous is much lower than at TED?”
Aha, but what’s the chance you’ll stand next to someone who WILL be famous?
Ask the members of the Homebrew Computer Club!
TED rocks! So discovering BIL is even more awesome. I’m looking forward to what it produces!
