Chris Spalding** is a PhD student at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He carries out research within a wide range of specialities, ranging from the theoretical astrophysics governing planet formation, to the environmental consequences of ocean acidification. Hailing from the tiny country of Northern Ireland, he dreams of explaining the most complicated mysteries of the universe using simple principles that anyone can enjoy learning about.
