Joel Solomon is Chairman of Renewal Funds , Canada’s largest social venture capital firm. Launched in 2008, Renewal Funds invests in early growth stage companies in North America in the organic and natural food, green products and environmental innovation sectors. Renewal Funds currently has over $95m assets under management. Renewal Funds builds on a legacy of aligning money with values inspired by founding partner Carol Newell. Together with Carol, Joel spent eighteen years developing and implementing a “whole portfolio to mission”, integrated use of capital for social goods strategy with a regional sustainable economy focus. $60m was deployed in for-profit investments, charitable donations, PRI and MRI tools, leadership and organizational capacity, based in Vancouver. Joel serves as a Senior Advisor with RSF Social Finance and speaks frequently throughout North America, including a 2012 TEDxVancouver talk . He is a founding member of Social Venture Network (SVN) , Business for Social Responsibility (BSR) , the Tides Canada Foundation , and is board chair of Hollyhock . With a Lifetime Achievement Award from SVN, Joel was then inducted with Carol Newell into the SVN Hall of Fame in 2012.
