Entrepreneurship & Work

Mr Kannan starts his speech with focus on the cotton textile industry. India was the world leader for 5000 years in cotton textile industry but india’s trade has declined in last couple of centuries

One of the major reasons for this is the fragmented produce and the piece-rate wages. But if the technology gap is bridged then whole value chain can be integrated and it can unlock a large potential. With this in mind micro spinning was developed.

The micro spinning is done it by not doing many things. There is no -no baling -no bale-opening -no blow room operation -no complex mechanisms, change gears -no humidification -no high stress processing of fibres By doing so Vortex team has re-engineered the way things are done. The new machines developed for micro spinning are economical in scale. e.ie they are less complex and smaller. Think of a difference between a legacy mainframe computer and modern Personal computer.

micro spinning has benefited by – enhance earning for rural producer – eco-friendly practices -lesser energy consumption

conventional spinning mills cannot integrate the value chain because they have to run 24 hours. But the new micro spinning mill will run during the day times and the remaining time it will be shut. This helps in value integration across the textile value chain

A new brand by the name malkha has been launched. The tag line of this brand is ‘freedom fabric’. The new cloth is a hybrid between malma and khadhi. The fibres are handled differently in malkha. At the end of the speech Mr Kannan opened the dias for any questions from the audience.
